Yeah, doesn't really fit the challenge, but I liked the shot, (Inspired from the last Freedom challenge winner, but I didn't have a symbol in the eye, so it didn't work as well).
Last minute submission.
My eye, not sure how the background came out to the same color, I guess I was lucky in that sense.

Hee...I'm a little slow, and I know this was taken months upon months ago, but I can't help but want to share since people commented on not seeing the connection between the picture and the challenge.

I absolutely love your portfolio and the title of this one really caught my attention. One of my favorite poets is Arthur Rimbaud whose main claim to fame was his visionary theory to poetry.

Basically, he felt that to write true poetry, one had to be a visionary, an "other" as he put it (Je est un autre...incorrect French intentional) so as to not be held back by the constraints of the world and therefore fully give himself to the poetry...

And that, in a nutshell, is my take on how this relates to the theme of Freedom...that as a visionary, you're free from anything that could hold you back and therefore able to show the beauty of the world and life through your art. :)

Wow, two huge after challenge comments. Thank you to Theresa and Ryan for your deep and profound thoughts.

Hmmm, never noticed that spot before. I would guess it is more likely to be a spot on the outside of the lense rather then lense flare though.

Knowing you, you probably had your own...interesting idea of how this relates to freedom, but because crazy people daydream alike (er, wait, how'd that saying go?) let me put my interpretation on it. Perhaps it will be good enough to satisfy someone else who is less abstract in their thinking. Here goes:

Only the area of your face around your left eye is in the photo--the rest of you has managed to escape (here's the freedom tie-in) the confines of the photo.

The thing that helps me to deem this a plausible relationship is that your head is tilted at no slight angle as though you were trying to leave the photo entirely but had not managed to get the left side of your face out of the shot before it was taken.

Then again, with an explanation as abstract as that, one could submit almost anything to a challenge and get away with it as long as he or she explained it well enough to everyone else's liking.

Speaking of liking, I like this shot because it has this intense feel to it (like your trying to escape, ha ha...ahem...no, seriously).

Question (for anyone): is that a hint of a lens flare in the bottom right corner?

Hello Thomas and Greetings from the Critique Club...

Your score suffered a bit from the "not on theme" but you knew that (and according to your Manafesto - that's okay by you! - for the record I gave it an 8 but the tie to the topic was in my own mind)

Wish you had filled in the details as promised as I would like to know how you see the fit to the theme.

On to the photo itself. The lighting and colors make this an engaging photo, IMHO. The blue in the eye and the patch of blue light compliment each other and draw the background and main subject together. The blur of the eyebrow and upper cheekbone makes the sharpness in the eye even more pronounced and helps make it more of the main element. The top left pinkish area detracts a bit as my eye is drawn there but finds nothing as interesting as the other elements you've put together. Even the white rimmed border supports your image.

As far as I can tell, a title that more explicitly tied the shot to the theme is all that is needed to get the score higher -- you already have a technically and artistically well executed shot.

I look forward to more of your work in upcoming challenges. Please pm me if you have any questions on the comments.

Regards,
Theresa

Technically very good. The thematic connection isn't clear to me.

Impressive.

Nicely done and the background colour really complements the eye but doesn't really convey the theme of the challenge to me at all.

Very nice image, but I'm not sure how it fits the topic.

Interesting shot; the extreme closeup brings out detail you don't otherwise notice.

I don't get how freedom is represented by a close-up of an eye.

Photographically,it is okay, althugh I've seen a lot of eye close-ups on DPC in the past three months. It is interesting that the background echose the color of the eye.
