This was my first ever set I've done.
The set was created in my garden with plywood backing shot just after dusk, with my little nan.
I used one strobe light which was bounced of a square piece of white fabric.
The wall paper did slump down alittle bit as it was only stapled but as I added a damp effect it kind of worked in my favour.

Thanks for all the comments, The set up was hard as it was the first one. I would most likely make it a bit more soft/dark next time.

This is a setup in your garden? Awesome!

I gave you a 10. The image is beyond outstanding in its composition and content. Completely fabulous!

I am baffled by this one - i do not even know whether it is set up or journalistic - i'm not sue i like it or am engaged by it but it has kept me looking a long time though, trying to unpick the puzzle more than anything - please post an account of this shot in the notes when the challenge is over because it is going to bug me 8

Good environmental portrait. I wonder what it would be like in b&W.

A very melancholic environmental portrait. Love the assortment of the things in the picture. One thing that struck me in particular is that the bed is a twin, which implies that she probably lives alone. 8

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: What an honest portrayal of life. It is seldom that we get to see an image with this level of authenticity and as a consequence it can't be judged by conventional aesthetic measures. Her gaze, off to the side as it is, adds much interest and the light, flat and slightly stark hides little.

Critical stuff: Nothing

Overall: Inspiring stuff. Reminds me of Shetland's 'This is Britain'.

An honest and effective character study. Great job with the mixed lighting. (Actually, I find it interesting that the lamp is on with what appears to be a lot of natural light.)

I think there is somewhat of a movement to create end of life(style) photography, showing the sick or elderly in their natural element. I can appreciate the style. One thing I would do for this, if your intention was to make it that type of photo, would be to make it darker or low key. Here the bright light just doesn't portray the same emotion the woman is showing.

Very compelling image. I love the contradictions here, the sparse surroundings, the slightly deteriorated belongings, and yet she is so elegant and beautiful.

Somewhat evocative; somehow sad. If there's a story behind this, you'll have to put it in the photog's notes.
