As soon as I saw this challenge, I knew I had to photograph the famous Red Gym (see more on the history here: //hum.lss.wisc.edu/uwhist/redgym.html). This building seems so out of place, with its bright red brick and castle style, among the more modern buildings that surround it. My wife is currently working in this building, and has told me you can still see bullet holes in some of the walls from when it was an armory!
This shot is across the street, at mid day (the reason for the heavy shadows). I tried to only focus on the the Red Gym in this photo, omitting all of the surrounding infrastructure (most of which is currently under construction and does not look appealing).
