Oh! As in the transform. Great twist!
08/11/2010 02:17:55 AM
oha, I get it... this was thinking so far outside the box, I didn't notice the box... and then I realized it was your frame, which I regarded initially with indifference... I like your style!

Nice patterns...dont see how this is for an operator picture, 5

Who's calling, please?
08/10/2010 05:43:14 PM
Sooo DNMC.

My fiancee holds a B.S. in math, and I also enjoyed far too many math classes as a science major, so I'm certainly not ignorant as to what you're trying to say here, and I do enjoy the word play very much.

I think this location could prove to be a great place to get some very nice images for future challenges, as that pattern is really great.. Your choice of B&W processing really suits this image well, and your lighting is also very good.

DOF is a little shallow (nearest is slightly OOF) and your border isn't helping this image.

However, as I'm judging this image as an entry in the "Stock Photos: The Operator" challenge, this strikes me as sophistic and shoe-horny. *shrug*

Talk about a differential operator! This picture definetly shows the divergence of the gradient, and as such represents the flux density of the gradient flow. Truly harmonic!

I admit, I had to look the meaning up. Funny, and just for teaching me something new and a bit of lateral thinking (even though it had nothing to do with the challenge), I'm giving this an 8.
08/10/2010 02:10:43 AM
nice pattern here, but not sure about the operator part of it...
08/09/2010 09:05:35 PM
Unique take on the challenge, but it doesn't really fit the challenge description. Props for out of the box thinking!
08/09/2010 07:00:03 PM
hmph. Okay, so I learned a new word. Now what do I do?
As an image, this is glorious. I love the way the lights hits all the little faces in different directions. And I'm really enjoying the fact that it isn't flat. But as a stock operator photo? Well, I didn't even try to enter the challenge so I'll give you that. 8

well it will be interesting to see who has done first/second year maths and gets the title, though the shot does not quite look like the Laplacian symbol. The bottom of frame could have been a little bit sharper though.
08/08/2010 07:31:15 PM
You get points from me for creatively stretching the definition of the challenge (yes, I had to look up laplacian). However, I know from past painful experience with DPC that most voters won't look it up, won't think outside the box, and will vote harshly because they don't get it. They'll probably make plenty of "doesn't meet challenge" comments. Good luck to you with this shot. 6

I can only figure this was uploaded to this challenge in error as I can't even see a remote shoehorn of a connection to the topic.
08/07/2010 10:00:07 AM
Nice pattern & curves, but seems to be missing an operator...
08/07/2010 08:52:26 AM
My guess - with the title is you are going for the maths operation? I don't see this going down very well with others. I do however like the image but not how you squeezed it into this challenge :P
After a brown? Good Luck, I bet you will have loads of comments!
08/06/2010 07:36:05 PM
Not sure this fits the challenge.
08/06/2010 10:24:35 AM
Nothing to do with anything.
08/05/2010 04:33:20 PM

Clever...but it will get slaughtered no doubt by noobs who can't be bothered to use Wikipedia...
08/05/2010 06:16:26 AM
Is it really? Notwithstanding the creative use of the word "operator" with the title the shot itself isnt very aesthetically pleasing. It seems devoid of a strong composition and could do with a bit of contrast, two major things to think about when taking a black and white photo. Sorry if that was harsh, but that is the way i see it... I'd be lying otherwise.
08/05/2010 03:19:05 AM
i'd like an explanation on this shot, why in this challenge? 4

I'm pretty sure this was supposed to go into the Black and White Minimalism contest...
08/04/2010 01:40:08 PM
Ok, this is even MORE shoehorned than mine :-)
08/04/2010 01:23:31 PM
Dud!!
08/04/2010 11:46:04 AM
WTF?
08/04/2010 10:09:07 AM
I think you entered this in the wrong challenge.
08/04/2010 09:56:33 AM
Don't believe this fits with the "operator" challenge. But, very nice shot.
08/04/2010 08:50:28 AM
Lucky for you, I looked up the term, and found the mathematical reference. Unlucky for you, I don't think this meets the spirit of the challenge at all (especially the description).
This would have been wonderful in the Minimalism B&W challenge!
08/04/2010 08:10:20 AM
wonderful, doomed interpretation :-)
08/04/2010 07:00:31 AM
Interesting take and I can see this as a good representation of the Laplacian matrix but due to the challenge description I cannot score this high.
08/04/2010 05:17:32 AM
Wow, I had to look this one up convinced you entered the wrong challenge. Nice shoehorn, I give you a 7 because I learned a new word.
08/04/2010 01:17:45 AM
Sorry, but I'm not getting the idea here.
08/04/2010 12:54:22 AM
Wow, I've never seen a formula used to equate the probability of a 'shoehorn' equalling absolute low collective values but I can see it as it expands out in you image (ie - too clever for me & probably most) ;-)
08/04/2010 12:42:11 AM
???
08/04/2010 12:39:52 AM
Enjoy the brown!
