You did good with the Shallow DoF. What needs improvement is the portrait posing. The only visible eye is in blur and the only sharp part of the shot is the hair covering the face which is taking up about 50% of the image. This does seem like a candid shot so you may not have been able to change the pose. However, the major portion of the shot is hair.
Nice job capturing the fun of the moment. For his challenge, I think I would liked to have seen a bit more of the background to put the photo into context.
