 The sun here in Florida was very close this evening when it got to the horizon. It's about a mile to the taller trees from where the camera was.
Edited for color and contrast, not cropped.
Sigma 400mm f5.6 APO, Held against a fence post for stability.

That's incredible. I've never really understood those pictures of huge sun or moon, but I think you have just explained it so it makes sense at last. The trees are so far away that they are really tiny in comparison. You must have a good lens.
