re-creation of m_sarzynski's first entry

I chose not to convert to B&W since Pug's have a natural sepia tone to their fur, and I felt it looked better this way. I used one light to the side of the pug, and shot more straight on than the original photog did with his in order to capture a more pensive mood, rather than one where the subject seems just focused on me.

What a sweetie! Great expression, and I like the choice of the light and the pose not directly to the camera. He looks thoughtful, and yes, pensive.

I agree with the other commenters below and wish there was a either a little more depth of field or the focus had been solidly on the eyes, rather than the mouth. I think because the pug's head is not directly flat to camera - which works for the expression and pensive mood that you indicate you were going for - the more forward eyes is in focus, while the right eye is a little soft, especially at the back and along the bottom.

The only other nit I have is that the subject gets a little lost in the background on the right side of the photo. I am no expert with studio lighting, but a side light or back light might have worked to isolate the pug from the background here, where the tones of the fur and the tones of the wall are so similar.

a little bit better than the original. i like that there's a little more focus on the snout and eyes this time.

Good pet portrait and an improvement over the original. Having the focal point on the eyes instead of the mouth would have made this excellent.

I like it a lot better than the original, the extra depth of field helps, and the warm tone is nice.

This is beautiful, I can look at it for hours. Love the color and the sharpness and how you can almost feel how soft he is just by looking at the picture.

This is really well lit and well done. The only thing I see different from the original is the look of the dog. I love how the dog is looking up in the original, really adds something and just kinda grabs you. If the dog in this shot had that look it would be a solid 10, but I still give you a 9. Good luck.
