Tripod used for this one, no aditional light.

For JustCaree, I didn't do much in postprocessing, first in Raw I lighten and increase the yellows and other minor adjustments, then in PS I simulate the Horton effect, I left this layers at 100%, this made the dark green bg almost black, wich I liked, then levels to bring back some light in to the flower. Then like Karen and Matt said I went a bit too far on the sharpening, first a layer with Topaz adjust, resize and then smart sharpen and USM, the last one to increase a bit the contrast... hehe, I'll go easy on the sharpening next time ;)

Yeah, I'd have to agree about the sharpening. In fact, I think a softer focus would enhance this a bit more. Also, instead of USM alone, do USM + a mask derived from Find Edges. Adjust the curves on the mask. I think that would be a good compromise.

Oops...forgot to comment on the photo. Love the colors and the black background is perfect!

Sometimes when I'm zooming in on a flower a little guy like this pops up and I didn't even see him before. I like the glowing sense of the beautiful purple petals.

I agree it may be a bit oversharpended but it's a great reproduction of the colors that just jump out at you.

Wowzers, this one really jumps out at you!! Great colour. Maybe a bit oversharpened but I'd rather see it too sharp than too soft.
