Some things work: the light's okay, the colours are interesting (green is a risky choice but works here), catchlights are done nicely. Overall, it's not as strong a portrait for me because of the odd pose (a viewer-left facing portrait can work, but the pose must be immaculate), and the sense that I don't get anything from this other than "yearbook photo" or "family photo". I can't tell what's going on with you here, and that's extremely important. Some of the entrants really nail this (look for the kid with the guitar), some don't get it too well. I just get the sense of a guy with a green shirt and a smile. That's not so bad, and as I say the portrait is okay overall, but it hasn't made me want to stop and consider it for very long. 6 |
