Challenge: Door Knobs, Handles & Locks (Basic Editing) Camera: Canon EOS-50D Lens: Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 Di II LD for Canon Location: Fort Worth Stockyards Date: May 13, 2010 Aperture: F7.1 ISO: 640 Shutter: 1/25 Galleries: Urban, Architecture Date Uploaded: May 18, 2010

Went to my favorite place that always seems to yield something interesting, the Fort Worth Stockyards. There were a lot of doors with more ornate and interesting hardware than these very plain handles, but I really like the way this shot beckons me to step inside for a round of pool and a cold one.
I'm really enjoying the strong perspectives and close focusing distance my new Tamron 10-24 offers.
I feel I have some shots that may be safer for a reasonable placement, but I like this one, my DPL teammates like it, and my wife does not. All good signs to take a risk and enter something that will hopefully be a little different. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead.
Anticipated critiques:
-Main subject is the pool hall and not the door handles.
-Don't like the divided composition.
Post-challenge notes:
Didn't do as well as I had hoped, but I knew it was a risky entry, so I'm not really surprised. I had some of the more expected shots of locks, but I took a chance with this perspective view. No risk, no reward. |

I thought I commented on this during the challenge. I think it's a wonderful image. I love the simple lines of the door and the handle and the way it leads you inside. I also really like the contrast of the colors between the door and the pool hall. BTW I gave it an 8. Good work spiff!

good clarity...only one thing...the flooring on the bottom IMO didn't add to the picture at all...and mind you it's not counting against you...just an observation/opinion...

The door panel slices the photo in half, so the outside scene competes with your door, I would have shot either more door, or more of the outside scene, nice shot though, creates two different atmospheres.

I like the difference in scene from one side of the door to the other.
