Shot at the Liberty University Baseball game. I had to sit with all of the other guests so there were many shots of the bottom of peoples heads but I ended up finding a pretty good perspective to shoot from by the time I got this shot. The player was on second when the batter had a nice hit so I prefocused on home in anticipation of a play. I was able to capture the entire series of the slide with the 7D's 9 fps. I had my 70-200 2.8 lens wide open and still had to crop a bit but do to the sun having set by this time I couldn't use my 2x extender. All in all I am very happy with this shot and thought it fit the challenge to a T. The voters seem to disagree and after 90 votes I am still under a 5.5

I voted this image a 5. My reasoning behind my vote is a two fold. First it's a great timing shot, its the decisive moment of that play. But the detail in the shot seems be muddied up. My guess is very large crop and an image that wasn't super sharp in this area to begin with. Would it run in the paper, if this was a telling part of the story yes it could. Would it stand alone on it's own if it were insignificant in the outcome of the game? Not likely. As stated sharpness is an issue with it, best I can tell the player sliding either is just in the out of focus plane or has motion blur, at 1/1600 I find it hard to believe that it's motion blur, but might be as the catcher who is still seems to be acceptably sharp. This would be an image I'd write a cut line for and turn in, but the editor would likely not make a selection to use it unless it was the final play of the game and decided it.

Good expression of the roughness of this sport. Sin, which YOU could not take the photograph of from another angle. Now disturb, the legs of the witnesses in the context.
