Beautiful shot and certainly not "over processed" in my point of view. There are PLENTY of overprocessed shots in DPC that do well so, why they may pick on this one is beyond me. I do think it should have scored way higher than it did. Perhaps, it's because voters here in DPC prefer a LOT of contrast???? Not sure why but, I think the score should have been a lot higher than it was. Still, your work is doing well for someone who has just jumped into the swamp of critical viewers LOL! ;)

I can't really give any suggestions here as I gave it a 9. I have read through what others have written and what I see mostly is folks think it's overprocessed. So that explains some things for me....folks here don't like overprocessed; but I do and I have to be really careful when I'm preparing photos as entries here cause I tend to overprocess. What I do is process a photo two ways....the way I like it; then go back and do one that I think is acceptable for DPC. Then I enter what I like and as true to form if I enter what I like I get blasted. And usually they are right so that has helped me alot.
Although for this pic, I really don't see what they are talking about as this photo looks very true to me, I've walked into lots of fields to catch lots of horses at many different times of day and I think this is an excellent shot.

Beautiful scene itself, but oversaturated and possibly brightened with shadows/highlights, resulting in color noise

Wonderful scene - love that the little one is watching you.

I think in your effort to boost the details and color intensity of your shot, you ended up severely pixelating the image. This is especially noticeable in the coat of the horses - there is the classic green and pink pixel noise that is a red flag for 'overprocessed'. I think this is what really cost you significantly.

I like the scene, especially the younger one looking at the camera. On the adult it seems like the shadows may have been brought up in post? Quite a bit of noise on her.

Doesn't quite work for me. The ISO maybe too high with so much noise and the horse too centred. The scenery is lovely though. 5

How adorable! Love the field of flowers they're standing in. Only thing I might change is a hue adjustment to a bit more red tones on the horses (they're looking a bit green on my screen).

Beautiful sunset lighting on the mother's neck, face and leg. I love that the colt is looking right at you. I wonder if you worked on curves a bit to deepen the sky? Just thinking out loud. Nicely done.
