This is a wild Sea Otter on the Isle of Mull (Scotland), shot @ 600mm with a 300mm f/2.8 that I hired and a 2x converter. They are sensitive to movement so if you are still when they are above water they won't really notice you. As soon as they dive you have about 20 seconds to change position.
They also generally move in the same direction so you can predict approx where they will surface and intercept them! When I took this I was about 20m away and it was swimming towards the rocks below where I was standing so I suspect it's home was below the rocks.
The light wasn't great and I'd love to go back as there is so much wildlife there, I could easily spend days there!
Probably no where near enough wow for dpc, especially in fs so I predict ~5.5 ... and I suspect there will be a few people voting this down as they will think it is in captivity!
I love the shot and it's my current desktop image on my pc's :)
editing, converted from raw upping exposure, blacks, vibrancy, sharpness. Curves layer, dodged the face as was a little dark, resized, noise ninja, border, save.
I thought this was quite good - very captivating look you captured and I like the bubble trails in the water. I can see why you'd like this as your desktop display! Better than your outtake, too. But yes, the speed voter probably didn't stop long enough to enjoy the shot - their loss, not yours.
