The village flutemaker at the Scarborough Fair Renaissance festival. When I approached, the little girl was resting her head in her hands and staring intently at the young woman playing. She lifted up when I approached, but I still got the sort of shot I had wanted. I love the connection of the two girls gazing at each other.

I had trouble coming up with a suitable title, so I did a web search for flute related quotes. The one I used is attributed to a Persian poet and philosopher by the name of Rumi. I did have to make some adjustments to fit it into the available title space. The proper quote is:
"The fluteplayer puts breath into a flute, and who makes the music? Not the flute. The Fluteplayer!"

I also felt this quote to be a sibling of "It's not the camera, it's the photographer."

I have been wanting to improve my people photography, and I think I am, but not in the way I had envisioned. I had originally been thinking in terms of studio portraiture, but I am finding my favorites are shots such as this. I can't quite call it street photography, and it's not exactly a candid, as they are aware I am taking their photo. Environmental portraits, perhaps?

Anticipated critiques:
-Don't care for the processing.
-Long winded title.

Post-challenge notes:
A 6+ freestudy is not a regular thing for me yet, so I am very happy with this. It did have it's share of folks that did not care for it, but I expected the treatment would not be to the liking of all. The comments tell me that I did nail what I was after. I've been trying to improve my people shots, so I was particularly pleased to get some comments suggesting there was a story here.

Flautist? Interesting shot though. Makes we wonder what story lies behind it.
