 Levels, curves, s/h, resize, sharpen.
The sky really was ablaze that evening, maybe because of atmospheric dust from that eruption, and the editing steps were all very subtle.
The volcano in the distance is Snæfellsjökull, the entrance to the underworld in Jules Vernes' "Journey to the center of the Earth". According to my book of volcanic activity in Iceland, it's last eruption was more than 17 centures ago.
