Challenge: Double Exposure (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Date: Apr 27, 2010
Aperture: f/4
ISO: 50
Shutter: 4s
Galleries: Abstract, Blur
Date Uploaded: Apr 27, 2010

I used an ND filter to slow down exposure. Set up two subjects: the mask and netting arranged with its own lighting, and a lot of little white Christmas lights off on its own with a dim background. I set up the lens so that when pointed at the mask it would be focused, but when turned toward the Christmas lights the lens would be defocused so those lights would appear as bokeh. Set camera to bulb exposure after determining how many seconds I would need for a good exposure of both subjects.

I tried a number of options - sometimes I exposed the mask first, lights second, sometimes the other way around. Sometimes I covered the lens with a black card between moving to the second subject, sometimes I just moved the camera without covering the lens.

The image I chose to use, I did not cover the lens during the camera movement. I exposed the mask for about 3 seconds, then took 1 second to move the camera to face the Christmas lights.
