Challenge: Black and White Landscape (Basic Editing*)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Royal National Park, Sydney Australia
Date: Apr 21, 2010
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/160 sec
Galleries: Landscape, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Apr 25, 2010

Taken in RAW (never tried before as I didn't have a converter). I've learnt that it is irrelevant to set set the camera to black & white when shooting raw :-)

Very little done - desaturate, adjusted contrast and levels then resized.

Not too happy with the sky as it ended up a bit washed out.

I love the mood here. Wish there was just a little more contrast.

The tones in the people and the pier look too similar. Otherwise a nice rural study. The border actually works here.

(26/38) Very nicely composed. I wonder if you could have experimented with different black and white channels such that the people didn't blend in with the background.

Too much going on -- where do you want me to look?

lovely scene, thoroughly pleasing composition and mood. i wonder if the photo might benefit from pushing the blacks a bit more?

IMO (which does not count for much) your tones are just a bit flat, and although the little girl is in this...it distracts from the true subject..again...JMO

Needs a lot more contrast. I can hardly find the girl.

this is a nice scene, may need a little more contrast cause it's B&W to add that level of interest

This is a nice shot, but sadly, the greys are very flat.

Pleasing composition, but would like the B&W to have a bit more contrast, especially on the dock and girl.

A bit more contrast on this would have made a truly excellent shot, IMO. I like the addition of the people. They help give it a bit of context and sense of scale.
