Just one exposure, with three flash bursts, each fired on the drop. Set the camera to bulb, in a dark room, then triggered the flash externally with each drop.

to me there is to much noise in this...a noise filter could have helped to give it a silkier look

These kind of shots are all about the timing, lighting and angle of the shot. It's a shame that the drops on the top are too soft, (unless that's the mood you were going for) try a different angle next time or a bigger DOF. Also watch out for lines in the horizon, this one looks a little tilted to me.
