depart

On my way home from work I noticed this scenario. There are two buzzards with this deer road kill, the second one off to the right. I couldn't reach this to get a photo from a side road so I rolled past with the window down. Wasn't 100% satisfied so I drove past and parked a couple hundred yards down on the far side of the road. Even across 4 lanes of traffic and at least 100 feet away, they flew off. :-/

My approach on this photo is the emotive angle and simplistic B&W presentation. The letterbox border says contemporary, while the photo could be 50 years old. Started with the title of DONE...settled on DEPART. I wanted the title to cause the viewer to wonder and reflect. The buzzard on the right appears to be moving out of (departing) the frame (against standard photography "rules" I know), and the deceased deer has obviously already departed. I intentionally left the foreground soft (unsharpened) because of the subject material.

Hooray! That's so cool, a HM for the juried selection. THANKS!

It looks like the cover for a modern Hitchcock novel. Interesting!

Certainly makes the viewer want to know more … or maybe not - out of fear. A moody image with interesting questions.

Yes, yes, yes... Bizarre and creepy and all wrong yet perfect in every way. Ten.

7 - I like the scene and, before seeing your title, didn't like that he/she was looking out of frame... still undecided. A shame not a fraction sharper on the bird (or maybe more blurred, who knows), but also wish the silhouette was 'full', that is the head not in front of the background. More detail/definition in the carcass(es) and bones would be better, in my opinion.

Very cool. Could be the poster for a Horror film. Intriguing and thought provoking.

Nice, almost an Edgar Allen Poe feel to this one. Love it. Voted earlier.
