 Two photographs of the flowers, one with the foreground bits in focus, one with everything defocused, then layered. A texture layer added.

And yep - there are flowers out in SoCal this time of year. All year, in fact.

I've had in mind experimentation like this (combining in focus and out of focus exposures of the same scene) so I'm most interested and intrigued by the effect you've achieved.
