Then I did stuff with gradient layers, lighten, then darken blend modes and some eraser and got this

but all this is hardly relevant because the next step changed everything
Flaming Pear organic edges
Duplicate layer
Knoll Light Factory
Erased a little bit of light flare
Border via stroke
Border via canvas size
Flatten
Cloned out tiny birds
