Challenge: June Free Study (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: St Ives Harbour Quay, Cornwall, UK
Date: Jun 5, 2004
Aperture: f/10
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/50
Galleries: Humorous, Candid
Date Uploaded: Jun 23, 2004

A candid shot of a guy sleeping off the effects of Cornish Scrumpy (strong cider), sitting on the harbour quay at St Ives in Cornwall. It was dusk, with the light fading fast, hence the high ISO. I dropped my lens cap and was afraid I might wake him up, losing the moment, but he was well away.
Very little post processing, increased the saturation a little, sharpened a little, straightened, cropped a little and resized.
I am amazed at how little noise there is for an ISO 1600 shot. Wonderful Canon Digital Rebel plus Capture One processing!!!
Canon EF 28-135mm IS USM zomm at 75mm. Exposure compensation (real not digital) +0.6.
Yes, I could have opened up the aperture, but I only had one shot!

Nice emotive capture. Might also work as a BW photo, but then you'd lose the wild colors. Bump up the saturation a bit next time to bring out the colors and increase the shadows to give it a moodier feel.

Neat subject. I find the brightness of the left pillar distracting, though. I might have gone for a head-on shot, too, rather than shooting from slightly to the left.
