Any suggestions for this? Is the background too distracting, and if so, how can I change this?

Thanks.

I wanted to do something to the background, but couldn't figure out how. Any suggestions? How do I just darken the background or make it black and white?

Thanks.

I think shooting from a little higher angle would let you see more of the pieces of the game and the board. The model could be up on his elbows a bit so you could still see his face and he needn't be looking at the camera. This higher angle would pretty much eliminate the background as you can frame the image differently than you have here. Not sure if this helps any but it's my 2 cents worth.
