I'm giving you a seven, because I know how hard this shot is to pull off.. Very nice indeed..

gotta love whales! very cool that you could photograph them and see them in action

these types of shots are hard to really pull off and deliver a lot of wow factor - with some perspective (the land behind, the wide ocean, etc), a bit more of the details of the fins, and potentially a different composition so that the subject is not so centered, some of these could have really made this cool encounter shine in the challenge

Nice detail and colour, but the centred composition just doesn't give the image any umph (imho).

Now... please bear with me... I'm revisiting a little comment experiment I conducted in the 2009-03 Free Study... something like K10DGuy's comments, but with a twist... the twist being, the story will move from one photo to another within the challenge... also, I don't select just a few photos I start at the first and end on the last as determined by DPC random order assigned to me, with a single sentence for each photo... should be interesting... and you're photo is #11 in the series

----------
The animals on land and in the air and in the seas and ocean had all been waiting patiently for this moment to arrive.

Its a nice pic that few people ever see and it must have been special to be there and experience it. Different light would have helped to make this much nicer an dad more mood to it.
