I was surprised to find out that bulbs would bounce off my tile floor when dropped from 4-ft. Of course they shattered quite dramatically when dropped from 6-ft, with some essentially disintegrating. Apparently the balance spoken of lies within.

This was my first attempt at this type of capture. I was just fortunate to get three decent shots despite having only had 5 bulbs to work with (too cheap to use bulbs that still worked). Practicing with a less fragile object before hand was extremely helpful in sharpening my timing. I chose this entry since it retained more large pieces, and thus was most recognizable as having been a light bulb.

It's great to have a camera with the ability to use flashes at incredibly high shutter speeds. This shot was illuminated with two FL-50R wireless flashes in FP mode from the left: at floor level and above left, using snoots to help direct the light somewhat. Not sure if I could have gotten away with a slower shutter speed and larger aperture number (for better DOF), but I had too few bulbs available for experimenting, and I wanted to err toward effective stop-action.

PP in CS3:
Levels; Curves; Slight Noise Reduction; De-saturate (Yellow, Blue, Cyan); Remove hot pixels, Crop; Very Slight USM

Hope you found it entertaining.

I imagine this was not the first bulb you've shattered to obtain this photograph. All parts are splendidly in focus and frozen - as it should be.

Nicely done. Immediate visual impact. I like this even though I can't quite tell what it is... is it a light bulb? 10

Well executed shot but it seems a bit cluttered for my taste.
