Challenge: Selective Desaturation (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S7000
Location: Lancaster, CA
Date: Jun 19, 2004
Aperture: f5.0
ISO: 160
Shutter: 300
Galleries: Sky, Emotive
Date Uploaded: Jun 19, 2004

Woke up to dogs barking and balloons overhead. Shot this almost directly overhead and the pilot 'flamed on'. Rotated, cropped, selected the flame, inversed the mask and desaturated with master. Couldn't decide what to call it though so hopefully I made a good choice.

An awesome subject, but the noise in the background distracts greatly from the overall image. A tighter crop would have served this image very well.

There's a slightly distracting halo at the underside of the hot air balloon. The composition is a little boring, though the camera angle is interesting.

Nice photo! Noise is a bit noticable though.

Good use of the color. Your image is very centered which doesn't help make it really interesting.

The flame isn't a strong enough subject to be the only colored part. Sky is really grainy also... try using Neatimage to fix that.

I like this shot and take on the challenge. It works as a centered composition. Good luck.

Nice image. I like the perspective, composition and square crop a lot. I'd like to see the original too. Hot air balloon have such beautiful color, it doesn't seem quite the same in B&W. Still, for the purposes of this challenge, I think this one was well done. :)

Nice composition and exposure..the partial desat does it`s work well by taking the eye into the central portion of the image.
Well done

a black and white hot air balloon is something you don't see usually. bold move removing all the color from such a colorful object.

Wow, what a shot and your choice to desaturate all but the flame was inspired. Nice work.

Beautiful image! I love how you can see right up into the balloon to see so much of the flame. Great focus and composition and perfect use of selective desaturation. Good luck in the challenge. You should do well.

Very little saturation. In any other photo I think that would've hurt it. In this photo it works well with the subject. Nice idea, and nicely put together.
