 The set-up:
Speedlight off to the camera's left pointing towards the ceiling with bounce card up.
The camera was set to bulb and after I locked the remote trigger, I waved a flashlight across the top of the toaster for several seconds. Then I took a lighter and proceeded to spark the flint many many times for the remainder of the exposure.
After several tries, this was the one I was most satisfied with... and also my thumb was pretty torn up from the lighter.


And actually, this toaster is really temperamental. Sometimes it stops toasting things for no apparent reason, then when you try to push the handle down again, it makes an alarming buzzing noise and something sparks inside it. Other times it just goes ahead and ignores the timer completely and continues to burn any unwatched bagels. So sometimes I just feel like the toaster might as well be shooting sparks and flames all over the place... at least that would be entertaining.
