Edits (starting with original):
- Global curves
- Selective curves on sky and on foreground
- Large-radius USM, on sky only
- Vibrance (separately on sky and on foreground
- Curves to darken sky a little more (selectively applied using a gradient in quick mask mode)
- Apply vignette
- Clone out the monster booger in the sky ;-)
Overall, these edits took about 5 minutes, including a couple missteps. Other things that I'd do if I were working from a full size original
- Optimize resizing process to increase sharpness just a little
- Do most of the things I did with curves during RAW conversion to avoid posterization (which is visible in this edit because of the large adjustments made)
All in all, I think this image had really good potential. What I did not personally like was the falseness of the colors in the submitted edit. I thought that the structure deserved some "pop" but that the sky needed a little (OK a lot) more subtlety. I really like Neil's edit, but mine (I hope) reflects a little different approach, emphasizing the varied blues in the sky and water, contrasted with the bright hues of the structure.
