This Belgium Beer Shot was shot with dark field lighting technique with 2 softboxes behind an acrylic panel which was shielded with a black background. I then used 2 additional flash heads fired into reflector panels to bring extra light on the front of the glass, but especially the label and text on the glass itself. Preliminary edit in aperture 2, but then moved to photoshop as the label still needed an extra touch of light, so adjusted that with curves. However did not manage to get rid of the reflector panel in the middle of the glass as well as a hot spot/strip on the bottle....that really bothered me.

Greetings from the Critique Club

What a fun image. My first impression? Trappist Monks, eh? Good on them! And that got me ruminating on Benedictine brandy, Christian Brothers sherry...and I almost forgot why I was here.

But enough, back to work. I LOVED your lighting. As one who has tried and tried to photograph glass and therefore knows how difficult it is, kudos for getting it right. we do have to talk about that bottle. Slightly soft, I think. Or at least it is on my monitor. Also, the bottle is just the slightest bit tilted. One of those things where either 'a lot or none' might be the rule.

From the pictures you show on DPC it is obvious that you are a food photographer in the making, and with practice and study - because it IS an art - it looks as if you have the drive to go far in this field.

Keep 'em coming. Your images are fun, and soon you will be scoring up there with the best.

I hope this little critique is helpful to you.

Best medicine if you want to spell the name of the holy owl correct: Oehoeboeroe

(very long story, check usenet archives for Oehoeboere around 1994-2000)

You got the lighting close to perfection. I would have placed the bottle also in-focus.

Most European beer is served warm isn't it....I was going to say that adding some water drops to the bottle would make this more appealing but I think that is the difference between American beer and European beer. We look for the "coldness" of a beer bottle and/or glass. Your picture is super clear and well lit

Now that is some good beer. Nice job on the lighting, wish the glass had a bit more beer.
