 Variation on an existing flip and blend result -

create new layer and rotate 45 deg. Apply the maximum filter (from other selection) and blend the layer with multiply. Duplicate this layer a few times. Reduce the opacity as necessary so it doesn't get too dark.

This almost has a look of feathers somehow. :) This vivid blue is just incredible.
