Canid shot as the players were coming off for the tea break on day two of the New Years test match against Pakistan. At the time this was taken we were in a very deep hole.

The players in Shot are the Australian Captain Ricky Ponting and spinner Nathan Hauritz.

In case you were wondering they are Cricket players.

I am interested to hear how you go about shooting sport candids.

This has quite a retro look about it. Difficult job for you here with the faces in shadow but I do think a different contrast profile is needed.

Their faces say it all! Even without the title, you'd know they are not having a good day.

I talked with a sports photographer once, and he said that the key is to have a good zoom lens, and a very high ISO so your shutter speed is as fast as possible. He said in sports photography, the extra grain you get from the high ISO is quite acceptable and preferable to having a shot with no grain but is blurry and doesn't stop the action. Its a hard type of photography to do. I've tried capturing the action at baseball games. Its harder than it looks.

I think this is a good story telling shot.
