Taken on the rocks of the tide pools at Laguna. Took some patience to wait for a gull to land near by, wanted a nice BW portrait. Love this image.

Thanks for all the comments thus far!

This was taken at Laguna Beach, out on the rocks that make up the tide pools. This is not a heavy crop, very little crop in fact. I went with the intent of creating a moody BW portrait of a seagul. This was taken at sunset, underexposed by 2/3 stop to darken the background against the birds head which is more apparent after BW conversion. Benefit of shooting in BW with settings somewhat similar to my usual conversion.

You were one of my 10s - a very elegant portrait.

Lovely portrait indeed - and it is the light that makes it, of course. I'll add that I'm with Timothy, though - where do the birds get the money for these portraits? :-)

Aha, a professional portrait. (Where these wild birds get the money....)

Beautiful capture. I am surprised that this did not finalize even higher. I really like the BW conversion. Nicely captured and processed brilliantly, IMO.

this is verry nice but it looks like a heavy crop and the light is just a touch light on the head in my opinion 7

Lovely portrait. Pretty light and detail and a straight-on pose which looks quite classic. Like the B&W for this, too.

Interesting choice of managing the effect of the harsh lighting on the white feathers.

Well, I think this nails the classic portrait look. In any case, I like the bright of the eye, and the feather texture. I would have liked a wider DOF and while I think the vignetting works here, I think it also removes the ability to objectively judge the setting. (wild or not).. Still, very nice.

Are you the Zohar? If not, you have pleased the Zohar! (See forum for more information)
