Not as vast a landscape as some others I shot at the battlefield today, but I really like it. Thought tonemapping was just right for the subject, bringing out much of the detail on the corn stalks.

Still find it hard to believe so much death and suffering occurred in such a beautiful place. Venturing into that cornfield in September 1862 took more courage than I can possibly imagine, what with infantry hidden within and artillery strafing the field from both sides.

PP - converted to HDR in qtpfsgui (default settings) and tonemapped (settings: pregamma 0.606, mantiuk method, contrast mapping 0.1, saturation factor 1.204, detail factor 1), opened in PhotoImpact, cropped slightly, cloned out two stray bit of stalk/grass and numerous dirt spots (should've cleaned the lens!), dodged the path into the cornfield, increased saturation and contrast, resized, sharpened, added border.

Thrilled with how this was received and all the faves! Thanks :-)

Well, i confess, my American history isn't that great and i never paid much notice to the title and the relevance of the battle. Even without my for-knowledge though, this photograph was able to portray the sense of a 'happening' to me and was incredibly successful in that. Thats something i aspire to in my photography so thanks very much Mary for the inspiration.

Oh boy! Stunning image. I love the mystery of the scene. What or who has made those tracks? Highly evocative. In my top 5 of the challenge. 9!

Lovely detail, texture and light in this beautiful cornfield image. The dramatic sky above completes the composition perfectly. Almost looks like a painting.9

A landscape without horizon... It's different. I like the very particular mood, the warm colors...
Slightly oversharpened, still a 7

Beautiful textures in this Autumn cornfield and how reassuring to know that something has matured and grown out of that long ago September battlefield. Now it is once again the Season of Change and Dying, perhaps in a distant echo of the past. This place is now serene, anticipating a different future.
The stalks will stand true. Are there 3,654 of them which remember?

The HDR/Tonemapping effect works really well for this shot. Really brings out those textures. Nicely done there. No halos which is nice. Only nitpick about the PP is that I don't particular like the vignetting on the left. It seems to be a bit out of place.

Definitely not your stereotypical landscape! This is great...the texture and detail is great and makes this so fascinating. Great photo!

Wow, this is one of the best pictures I've ever seen! I love the colors, the way you've toned this, and the mood of the photo. The only thing I'd point out is that it starts to get a little flat in the top-left (could be my monitor), but other than that it's amazing! 10 & fav's... great job :)

It takes a keen eye, and great skill to make a dead cornfield look appealing. Great shot. 9

Good perspective. I really like the look of the corn more so than the sky.

Really like the look of the field. Awesome picture! (would like to know how you got the corn to look like that sometime)
