Wikipedia has this to say about the American Alligator.
Alligators are (only) native to the (United States) and (China).
(American alligators) are found in the southeast United States: all of (Florida) and (Louisiana), the southern parts of (Georgia), (Alabama) and (Mississippi), (coastal South and North Carolina), (Eastern Texas), the southeast corner of (Oklahoma) and the southern tip of (Arkansas). Alligators have also been found in extreme southern (Missouri) along the Mississippi River during the summer months. According to the 2005 Scholastic Book of World Records, Louisiana is the state with the largest alligator population[4]. The majority of American alligators inhabit Florida and Louisiana, with over a million alligators in each state.
I believe it meets the challenge just fine.

I appreciate the comments.

Unfortunately, In a basic challenge there is little that can be done to improve the look of a photo and gators are not real photogenic or colorful anyway. (But, I still enjoy entering them even if they score in the 4's).
I appreciate the comments. My very first score was an 8,my second score was an 8 and it fell off sharply from there, but it was good to see it start out high, if only for a moment.

It is a good model, I expect that you could photograph it more dramatically or powerfully. |

Does an Alligator capture the spirit of the Americas? The USA I presume but that's not obvious. If it is the USA then I associate Alligators with Florida rather than the whole country. Sorry, DNMC IMO. |
