 I believe that Canada is a very tolerant and peaceful country. I hope the rest of the world thinks the same.

This is my fourth round entry (Semi-final) for the MS Side Tournament.

I love this image. It definitely symbolizes Canada to me. When I was in Europe and walked the streets of different cities during this fall, a single red maple leaf on the ground would always make me think of my home - Canada. Many Canadians would agree that image like this has a meaning to us.

I like the simplicity of the shot, almost looks like a Canadian flag with wrong background! IMO red border is distracting and reason why i took 1 point off.. 8

really like the brilliant red of the leaf...not so fond of the border (but I don't count off for that...to me that is personal choice...and I do like borders...)

The red hue of this maple leaf is a splash of bold and eye-catching hue that leaps off the dark background. The visual was obvious that this is a representation of Canada. But I was curious about the title...so I googled it:-) I found that it is part of the lyrics in a song about Canada.

Oh, Maple Leaf, around the world, You speak as you rise high above,
Of courage, peace and quiet strength,
Of the Canada I love.

Understanding that now adds more poetic strength to the message of the photograph. Love the details that we can see here for this one bold and brilliant red leaf stands out from all the other leaves that are brown and under the surface of the water. This one leaf - this spirit of the country - stands strong. One small critique is that I wish the 'arms' of the leaf in the bottom right were in sharper focus like the rest of the maple leaf. Still an above average shot and lovely photograph.

is this Canada? I'm having a small problem so far identifying the country from the image. or have I got the challenge blurb wrong this does reflect Canada so8

I'm all for borders, but I think you should have picked a darker red in this situation. You really want the brightest colour to be the leaf so that the viewers eyes get drawn to the subject. Well done otherwise.

This is a lovely photo but the challenge asked for the non-stereotypical photo to represent a country. A red maple leaf is about as stereotypical and cliched as it comes when referring to Canada. Good luck in the challenge!
