actually the sun here is partially obscured by smoke from a forest fire in the Wrightwood area of southern california which broke out a few hours before i took this shot. couldn't get any decent shots of the actual flames but i like the look of the setting sun. the sun is fire, right?

An outtake which i liked but didn't feel enough like fire

thanks for your comment. i really don't see, though, how a hugh ball of fire would be considered a shoehorn in a fire challenge.

I think you got robbed. This screams to me "forest fire". Excellent work, a 10 from me.

Awesome photo, but I have had to make the decision that a "fiery sunset" does not fit the spirit of this challenge. Though it is possible this place was ravaged by fire, this does not carry across to me in the image. Again, a wonderful shot that I hate giving a low vote to, but I must. To do otherwise is unfair to the entries that did do something related to actual fire.

Very nicely done, I like the silhouettes of the trees and the smoky clouds. Nice composition and mood to this image. Keep up the great work.

I tried to get up there to photograph the fire. This is a fantastic scene that captures the intense mood and heat. Definitely abstract, and I doubt many voters would see this as a fire without the title.Well done. 9 from me.

This is a great shot! Excellent color and composition with the slope of the land, and the border works really well too!
