Challenge: Free Study 2009-09 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8L
Location: Out skirts of Ottawa
Date: Sep 10, 2009
Aperture: 3.5
ISO: 320
Shutter: 1/50
Galleries: Wedding, Horror
Date Uploaded: Sep 30, 2009

This was shot, in an abandoned house. We had to watch our step, as the front entry was overrun with bees. Loudest buzz I ever heard! Anyway, tripod was used with a shutter release. Used one flash on camera. Exposed for window light and set Flash head to 105mm to limit side light. Have to send my thanks to Snaffles. She found this great place and did a great job modelling! Adjusted cures, reduced highlights, cropped, resized and raw converted in iphoto.

Not your everyday location for a bridal shoot! I like it.

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Wow, this is a compelling image, bags of story and a really unusual POV. It is both flat and demonstrated perspective at the same time.... interesting. The muted colours work really well too.

Critical stuff: This should be a really powerful image - it is compelling but I'm not moved by it, I don't know why. On the face of it, it hits all the marks but there just seems to be something lacking with it. I don't know what it is - but I've a suspicion that it might be one of those images that needs to be seen big to be appreciated; 720px doesn't offer you that opportunity.

Overall: 10/10 for effort but the final image, for me, comes in a bit short of that score.

Really interesting angle, it took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on, for a bit everything seemed to be leaning in weird directions.

Mysterious and dark, and tells a story. My tied pick for yellow.
