I'm pretty sure this is a female Hairy Woodpecker and not a downy. I think I probably cropped this a little too much.

Hard to tell from this angle; I usually look at head shape and relative bill size (Hairys that I see have longer bills than Downys). That's if the size difference isn't blatant enough for me to tell right off (and it usually is). But then I usually see them at my birdfeeders so they're pretty close and differences are easy to see.

The crop here isn't that bad (the bird's eye looks nice and sharp), but you did get cyan fringing along various edges. Since there are few colors in the scene I might try B&W.
