I just watched your 5000 shot photo montage.
I'd never heard of Burning man but now I feel educated.
I'll look at some other challenge shots once my retinas have cooled.

Oh was my pick for something far higher than 31st...Although Paul Paulbtlwis right in that's it's not Eye-Candy, great! BUrning man is so surreal, i've never been myself but I have a mate who goes ( yes from Australia ) every year and sends back the most awesome imagery..... 20D in a scuba casing....love it!

Thank you everyone for all of the wonderful comments. The answer to everyone's question...yes this was taken at Burning Man this year. I shot it with my 20 D inside of scuba casing to keep the dust out. I shot it on the last day when a sand storm was just kicking up. Thanks for the comments about it not being DCP eye candy. I try to shoot things that are compelling from an unwritten story point of view. Photos that beg "what happened before...and or what happened after" and if i get really luck..."what is happening period"

The house is an "art car" one of the many things that are at burning man. This one in particular was the Neverwas car. You can google it. I am not sure that i can post URLS. Ill try.... you are all more than welcome to see more about it on a video montage of photos i created on my website. I stitched together 5000 stills to create it. //www.ruprechtstudios.com

Thanks everyone

Interesting photo I really like this, what a neat photo opportunity the only nitpick would be the border...but that has nothing to do with the photo...I am amazed.

Where in the world? The only place I can think of where something like this would show up is at Burning Man.

This one just has my imagination running all over the place; what a cool subject! The misty/dusty/foggy background makes me feel like I'm seeing a ghost of something.

I like steampunk. Very cool.

I can't wait to see what the story behind this is.

intriguing picture. (I hope you've put something about it in your comments).

This is a fascinating image... where and what is it... looks like something out of Pratchett novel. It looks like a picture of a movie poster or something... well done. Details are fantastic, and the subject and story it tells... said it before, fascinating.

No, I don't think so either. Cool, but I feel like I don't know enough about it to fully appreciate it. 8

This must be one of the first mobile/motor homes to have been built.

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: What an extraordinary scene - it looks like a film set or something; it really makes me want to know the context. I love the slightly high key nature and the way the image fades to depth - I don't even mind the border. I also like the way that you've had confidence in the muted colours. Most of all I like the figures - full of mystery.

Critical stuff: Nothing really - not understanding the context is a little frustrating, but that is my problem.

Overall: A most compelling image of a most extraordinary scene.

I dont know what it is about this photo, but I am gravitating towards it. The shape of the structure reminds me of the movie Howl's Moving Castle. Great shot, and my only 10.

You're right - it looks like something out of a fairy tale - great shot!
10/01/2009 12:26:00 PM
Crazy! What is it? Could use a more interesting crop imo.

Ominously surreal, great scale front to back, but why, oh why, the bold obituary border?
10/01/2009 08:53:55 AM
WOW- looks like a surrealistic shot from Dr. Zhivago. Remember that contraption in the remake of the Wild Wild West? I can see Kenneth Brannagh's character riding in that.
10/01/2009 06:24:54 AM
What the heck is that? I want one .... love this man, really makes me stop and take in the image
10/01/2009 01:57:59 AM
Must be from the burning man festival........... so so cool!
10/01/2009 12:04:53 AM
Whoa, that's still around? Cool!
