At last a little serendipity. A heavy marine layer came in this morning -- almost like rain. Thus, the reflections on the street. The light flare at the top is from drops of water that got on my UV filter.

The building in the shot used to be Jimmy's Oriental Gardens, opened in 1947. Inside looked like a movie set -- Chinese lanterns, red wall paper, teak furniture, the lot. And, the food was decent. The door that says "Cocktails" was a separate entrance for the bar. Until it closed, a couple of years ago, they had some vintage ads for Chinese beer on the walls. The ads had women in various stages of undress, and I can remember waiting in bar the with my mother to pick-up some carry-out (the restaurant didn't open until later). She told me to look at the floor, not the pictures!

The restaurant closed about five years ago, and the bar a couple of years after that. The restaurant is now an obscenely over-priced lunch/sandwich place, and the bar is still closed.

Progress. Ugh!

LOVE the rich golden glow of this. It has the patina of an old place with a lot of history, so I was delighted to read the story that goes with it and find it to be true.

That's one hell of a light show! Great narrative too...

Light is fantastic here, and I like those watery smudges along the top - three cheers for not seeking "perfection" by wiping off your UV filter!

It does look like it's on fire. Nice little anecdote.
