I'd i.d. this as a marten. The fisher, or what we'd call a fisher in Canada, should be larger with a bushier coat and tail and more nocturnal than its cousins in the weasel family. American or eastern usage of the terms may vary though.

We had quite a few of these in our area the last few years and the pet population dwindled significantly.

Great shot...these are normally very leery of people and tend to shy away from populated areas.

Denise, Awesome catch! I've seen them at a distance never up close--- The Big lens??

My neighbors think a fisher cat got their kitty... UGH!!
