This was taken at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in France. There are 14,246 Americans interred here, most of whom fell here (in France) between 26 September and 11 November, 1918, but some who were repatriated from other locations including Germany and Russia.

This cemetery was established 14 October 1918 by the American Graves Registration Service, with free use of the land in perpetuity granted by the government of France, and is maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission.

I traveled here with my Dad at his request - one of the places he wanted to see this trip to Europe was one of the American cemeteries in France - there are 11 of them.
