His name is Lee. I met him 6 years ago when we moved into his neighborhood. He is a very active 81 years old. A few days after I snapped some pics of him, he fell and broke his hip. That was about 8 weeks ago and he is mobile and back at home, though not back to work in his shop.
His shop consists of about 8'x12', crammed full of bike parts, frames, tires, tubes, chainrings, etc. Really a cool place. Overflow stuff lands in his garage and a small garden shed. He fixes bikes for people and pieces bikes together out of spare parts which he then sells out of his backyard.
Originally from Tennessee, but he has lived in CA for many years. Stories don't stop with a visit to Mr. Lee and good luck getting home in time for dinner if you dare to sit down.
I consider my few shots of him to be some of my best candid/environmental portraits yet. HOpefully I can get some more time in with him and my camera.
Ben-- i agree with your critiques on the whites--gotta love those plastic chairs.
