What luck! I went to Ape Caves near Cougar WA which is a lava tube created by Mt St Helens. Just happened to check the challenges for this week today then went through those files I shot yesterday and decided to enter this one.

I used a strong flashlight to paint the room for 51 seconds as someone was coming around the corner with a lantern. Edited in Lightroom RAW and exported as jpg for submission.

Not expecting a high finish with this but I like it. It'll probably end up somewhere around the middle I think.

The comments I have so far are assuming the light at the end is the way out however that is actually going deeper into the cave where there is no way out. In that direction the cave narrows down into a small "end" and you have to turn around and go back to the stairs out. Going the other direction there are rock piles to climb over and an 8 foot lava wall to climb over and when you get to the end going that direction there is a stairway to climb out.

As shot, I like it overall. I wonder how this would look with the foreground lighting toned down a bit. ??? I think the light at the end of the tunnel would be more dramatic then. Just my opinion of course. :-)

I generally liked this entry and I gave it a 6. Nice leading composition, good details, and the one area of bright color draws me to it. My nitpick is that the close area to the bottom left, and some of the cavern floor, appears to be lit far differently than the rest of the scene and it does not come off as well as the rest of the image. It looks like utilitarian lighting. Probably your flashlight. It really is hard to tell how these long exposures will come off until you see the result later. I suspect that aspect of the lighting may be the main reason for any low votes this is getting.

I like how the opening is far back in the frame but you also got light the inside of tunnel lit.
