Julian field is an ancestor of my wife's as well as a local historical figure and pioneer. The city of Mansfield was named after him (but they got the spelling messed up). Last time I went to the Fort Worth Stockyards, my wife asked me to locate Julian's commemorative star on the sidewalk and take a photo. I also took a couple to show it's location.

Captain Julian Feild was the first family to move into the fort right after the soldiers moved out. He served as both the 1st and 5th Post Masters for Fort Worth. Much of our current downtown sits on the Feild farm. His grandson had the first telephone number and was the first ob/gyn for here too.

Mansfileld was founded by brother-in-laws, Ralph Mann and Julian Feild. They started a gris mill and the town built up around it. When Mansfield was 30 years old they petitioned to have the spelling changed because it gave the postal system fits and they got tired of telling everyone that they misspelled the name.

Julian married twice and had 15 children. I'm descended from his second child. Due to the fact that my poor Dad was the first boy for 2 generations, there is no surprise that I don't carry the name. Feild is derived from the French name, de la Feld.

I know lots and lots but that is enough to fill in some blanks for the curious.

This set of snaps is pretty cool. It's neat to know that your wife is directly connected to a historical figure. That's what's fun about this SC, the viewers get to see little snippets of other people's live, what they do, how they live...
