Challenge: The Username Challenge III (Advanced Editing VII)

This was definitively the challenge which made me sweat the most until now!

When I saw the username in the long list (luckily she joined quite early), I immediately had this idea. I just had to ascend 4000 feet in extremely hot weather to get to my vantage point. It's the Montalin and the city you see is Chur. The river is the Rhine. It's a self-portrait, therefore I also had to carry a small tripod :-p

The mountain top where I sit was still in the sun, whereas the rest of the landscape was overcast. Therefore I separated both areas with a layer mask. Then I used curves to correct the white balance in the overcast part and increase the contrast. A little increase in saturation. USM, resized, added border, flipped horizontally and saved for web.

Critique Club!

What an amazing view you have and obviously some strong legs to take you there.

I love this shot, you choose so well, the quietness of the mountain overlooking the hectic busy metropolitan of life. I think putting your bag on the other side of you would have looked artistically better.

The placement of you in the shot, is well chosen. The details are really brought out by your sharpening. The grass is a little over sharpened though but does not distract from the shot at all. In post processing , a little dodge and burn on the mountains could have brought them out a bit. They seem a little flat, so making the darks a little darker would have made them pop out. Good job on getting the white balance corrected in pp.

Overall, a very good photo.
