Ah, the eye membrane. I thought it might be controversal, and it is. Of course I did it deliberately, as it set the mood I was going for. This is the kind of art I try to create, where it causes a little discussion.

In any event, others in the series did not have the half-mast membrane and I discarded them.

Thanks to all for the many comments. This was a fun challenge.

This was one of 3 images to which I gave a 9. Lovely light, nice sharpness of detail, love the half lidded eye and the background is great!

I love the evil eye! Beautiful bokeh too -- makes the background look like a painting. The only criticism I found was the halo on the back of the birds head. Otherwise, cool shot!

Eye-catching(!): the partially open/closed nictitating membrane simply gives the nod/wink to this being not at all what it might at first seem. Wit and whimsy, graphically lush.

Interesting colour and composition. Love the soft background with hints of other pigeons. The bird's stare is almost scarry. A moment well captured.

The eye is pretty distracting.

It's too bad the nictitating membrane wasn't fully retracted.

I like the yellows in the background and how they contrast with the blues. Too bad about the hot spot on the right.

I love this one. Probably my favorite in the challenge. I love the details in the feathers and I love the eye. I also love the oof birds in the background. I'll have to check back to see what kind of equipment you used. Only minor critisim is that the top of the beak is a little blown out. I never would have noticed though if I wasn't looking for something to critisize. Great shot.

Love the depth of field used here. Just not sure about the eye not being all the way open, it's like he's trying to read your mind (lol).

Woah your pigeon is evil! Like its plotting the destruction of mankind. Lovely Bokeh, but somethind is up with the feathers? too sharp? 8 from me.

This is a superb portrait. It's the out of focus birds in the background that make it special. They are so well positioned. What well trained birds.

The transparent eyelid coming up over the eye is quite remarkable. 8

VERY cool use of pigeon bokeh!! And nifty that you caught the eyelid half closed - nice glow! Very cool pigeon shot indeed!
