 Well, I was too lazy to go out and find anything cool looking so I got a rock from my garden... and here it is :)

***Having all of the rock in focus makes for a very dull photo***

I thought it was some kind of chocolate-chocolate chip thing that had been over cooked.

With such a simple composition, I think the entire rock needed to be in focus. Also, the light needed to be more even, rather than having a large area in shaddow......

I love the way the warm browns of the rock contrast to the neutral gray background... really makes it pop.

Excellent execution of the shallow DOF. Would have cropped this so the stone was more in the upper right corner.

Why not have the whole rock in focus? Or focus on some interesting details?

Your choice of aperature here, giving the really shallow DOF is what makes this shot. This rock has a lot of character, and good texture. Nicely captured.
