 Yes, it's a bird. But since I did a bird from the ground up, it just had to be a bird from above--I needed a matched set.

Taken from the Jamestown-Scotland ferry. The seagulls will occasionally fly down, right next to the boat, I'm guessing going after fish that are churned up. They actually disappear under the boat at times.

It's much harder getting these shots than getting the soaring shots. And they're not nearly as interesting... (no messed up feathers, no interesting angles. If they are turned at all, it looks like they're banking, not that you're above them.) Because of this, and the fact that the background is so similar in tones to the bird, I'm not expecting much. I'm guessing 5.5, but I hope I'm wrong!

Great composition... I love that you've captured the full wingspan and cropped it so that they go from corner to corner. It's only a shame that it's such an ugly bird and it gets lost somewhat in the dirty water below... not things you have any control over, I know... but perhaps explain why an otherwise great shot didn't do better with the voters perhaps.

Really like this composition and perspective; I don't usually see birds in flight from above. Think I might have done this in B&W since the bird is bluer than the water.
