Feels like a six to me.......The composition is excellent according to viewfinder cut into nine segments......B&w my choice also, I might have added a tinge of red to the total picture to give a hint of sepia, I also would have brought down the bulbs a bit...some might like, I find my eye suffering fron them a bit. I might also have cropped a bit tighter on the left horse bringing the crop line just outside the silver pole....

I love it! Works well for the challenge for me. Very dramatic photo and b/w is a good choice. I would have rated it a 10. |

GeneralE's comments are pretty accurate. The third horse out of focus isn't something I'd penalize you much for (perhaps a point) but I think he is right in that you'd get hurt in the voting.
I'm also not sure what you could do about the bright lights other than crop. I'd rank this about a 6 or seven because the front horse is pretty much perfect. |

I find the choice of B&W interesting for what is usually a riotously-colored subject, but given that the exposure is very good, especially under those conditions. And even though the poles are tilted a bit in real life, I might have made them completely vertical.
I think in the "Three" challenge you'd suffer for having the third horse out-of-focus; as a straight-up carousel photo that doesn't matter or is even better that way.
There's also an awful lot of bright lights up there, which pull the attention away from the main horse on the left. I might use the burn tool to "dim the lights" a little bit (if it ended up looking OK) and/or crop off a little more from the top, right above the left-most horse's head.
Missing by three minutes must be some kind of poetic justice I guess ... sorry about that! |
